Wild and Kind Coloring is made by Shantelle Jewell. Not a studio, not a licensing operation, not a company that buys line art in bulk and puts a new title on it.
Read enough coloring book reviews and the same complaints come up again and again. The spaces are too small. The women look like men. There is so much black fill that half the page is already decided. The design on the back was ruined by the marker on the front.
None of that is difficult to fix. It is just easier to publish quickly and hope nobody notices. Every rule this brand follows comes from those reviews.
Where this is at, honestly.
This is a new brand. Two books are out, a third is arriving, and the mail club is still being costed and prototyped. Nothing here is a big operation pretending to be small, and nothing is a small operation pretending to be big.
If you buy something and it is not right, say so and it will be made right.
She is the one who signs the letters, and she is the reason the mail club exists. A woman in her early to mid forties who has stopped explaining herself: one honest streak of grey she does not hide, round glasses usually pushed up into it, a denim jacket she embroidered herself, and daisies in whatever jar was nearest. Feminist, environmentalist, a rebel about the things worth being one about. She has smoked since it was illegal to and has no plans to stop pretending otherwise.
She believes beautiful things are for using rather than saving, that nobody is coming along to give you permission, and that a real envelope is a small act of love in a world of notifications. Once a month she puts art, a recipe worth the mess and a joke that actually lands in the post, for the Canadian women who share her tastes.
