What I actually color with

Not a list of everything that exists. These are the things that behave well on book paper, plus honest notes on what each one does and which ones you can safely put off buying.

Disclosure. Some links on this page go to Amazon as an affiliate. If you buy through one, Amazon pays a small commission at no extra cost to you. It does not change what gets recommended here, and nothing is listed that would not be listed anyway. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

If you are starting from nothing

If you prefer pencils

If you want the soft blended look

Paper, which matters more than pens

The honest summary

Buy a set of dual tip water based pens and a pad of cardstock. Use a scrap sheet behind every page. That is about thirty dollars and it covers almost everything people write frustrated reviews about.

Everything else on this page is a want, not a need, and there is no hurry.

More detail on all of this: which markers do what, how to stop bleed through, and how to blend pencils.
